Biography

Dr. Brown graduated from the University of Bristol in the UK and completed her anesthesia residency in South-West England. She came to BC Children’s Hospital as a Pediatric Anesthesia Fellow in July 2011, and joined on as staff in 2013. Dr. Brown has been a Residency Site-Coordinator for 6 years and have helped to transition the Anesthesia Program over to CBD. She has a longstanding interest in medical education and have sought to develop this aspect of her career, firstly through completing a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, and then putting theory into practice with her role at BCCH. Dr. Brown has worked hard to improve the reputation of BCCH from being a somewhat intimidating placement to a more welcoming, supportive, and safe learning environment. One area she has focused on recently is recognising the impact of pediatric near-miss intraoperative adverse events on anesthesiology residents and determining desirable support initiatives. Dr. Brown has been offering psychology-led support sessions for the residents on a weekly basis.

Purpose of Visit

During her visit, Dr. Brown will connect with members of the CHES community to engage in scholarly conversations about linking wellness initiatives to benefiting learning. If supporting residents through training by improving positive mental and social wellbeing, are they in a better position to learn?
