Lucas Streith

Clinical Educator Fellow

I am a general surgery resident at UBC, taking time away from clinical training to explore my passion for teaching and education scholarship. When I started the MHPE in 2021, I was looking forward to formal training in teaching skills and health professions education theory. It did not take long for me to realize that I wanted to spend much more time in this realm to explore a passion far beyond what I initially expected. I am grateful to the scientists and staff at CHES for their support and for inspiring me to dive in!

My background is in the basic sciences; my love of anatomy drove me to general surgery and has also inspired my thesis research in surgical decision-making. Through the fellowship, I am looking forward to more involvement in a variety of teaching and research activities, as well as to developing my research programme. For me, teaching gives an additional layer of meaning and fun to the theory and research that I really enjoy in HPE. Outside of working and studying, I enjoy travel, cooking, gardening, and learning languages.
